Move over shopping malls. Nothing beats browsing a Christmas market to get you in the festive mood and Camden hosts one of the most creative in London.
The quirky, counter culture vibe that Camden is famed for is joined by a healthy dollop of tinsel and an overload of fairy lights as the stalls gear up for the big day.
Last minute shoppers will love the extended opening days, with the stalls trading from 10am until 6pm throughout December, including Christmas Eve. In fact, the good people of Camden Lock Market are only taking one day off - Christmas Day - and are back open on Boxing Day right through to and including New Year’s Eve.
As well as unique stocking fillers and gorgeous items straight from the designers to wrap up and pop under the tree, Camden Christmas Market is the perfect place to refuel after shopping or to meet up with friends. The chefs at the Camden KERB street food market have given some of their most popular dishes a seasonal slant for December, with turkey burritos and Christmas dinner mac ‘n cheese on the menu.
And festive food is also on offer to take home. If you’re catering this year, make a note of the 7th, 14th and 21st December, when the UK’s first ever Festive Vegan Deli will be in full swing. The deli brings together the finest vegan producers and retailers under one roof, tempting even the most carnivorous of people with their plant-based ingredients and wares.
Of course, if you prefer a bar stool to a shopping bag, Camden welcomes you with open arms. Camden Lock Market is full of pubs and restaurants where you can relax over a hot toddy, a mulled wine or even an ultra-retro snowball. Just don’t overdo it or you might find yourself in one of Camden’s tattoo parlours with a permanent reminder of the festive season!
