Families moving to be in the catchment of a specific school should start their North West London property search on the London Residential website. We have installed a brilliant search facility that shows all the local schools, their catchment areas and Oftsed rating at a click of a button.
To explore local schools, click on the property that caught your eye, to view its full details. Then click the ‘SCHOOLS’ tab under the ‘About this …… Property’ heading and a prompt appears asking you to choose from ‘All Schools’, ‘Primary Schools’ or ‘Secondary Schools’. Click your preference and watch a local area map populate with all the schools around the property you have chosen.
Each catchment can be viewed by hovering the cursor over a school icon. You’ll notice that each school icon is colour coded and this indicates the school’s Ofsted rating - Green for ‘Outstanding’, Yellow for ‘Good’, Orange for ‘Requires Improvement’ and Red for ‘Inadequate’. The ‘blue’ schools are independent and ‘grey’ schools represent further education facilities.
Parents can delve deeper into the performance of each school by clicking on a school icon. A pop-up menu appears - overlaying the map so you’re not taken away from your school search - allowing users to toggle through an immense amount of information. Browse a school’s summary (including total number of pupils, boy/girl ratio, type of school, age range, religious character), read extracts from the latest Ofsted report, compare KS1 and KS2 statistics, read opinions posted by parents and get the school’s full address.
There are also live url links enabling parents to navigate away to the latest and historic Ofsted reports, to the Government page for online applications, to detailed key stage information and to local crime information.
We have understood, however, that parents may wish to search for specific types of schools only, so parents can use the menu button in the top right-hand corner of the map to adjust the results according to a number of filter options - religious character, gender or Ofsted rating, for instance. There’s also a sliding button filter that allows further customisation by giving parents the ability to turn on and off the independent school’s display and admissions area.
If you’re a parent in the Camden borough with school-going children, the following information may prove useful:
Primary school admissions: The deadline for applying for September 2018 Reception places is 15 January 2018. You can apply from this September onwards.
Secondary school admissions: The deadline to apply for Year 7 places in September 2018 is 31 October 2017. You can apply from this September onwards.
You can apply for school places and find more information on the process here. Before you start looking at properties for sale in North West London, bear in mind the following:
1. Camden Council will investigate if they think a parent has used a false or temporary address to make a school admission.
2. Living as close to a school as possible will not guarantee you a place but it will help secure an admission once spaces have been taken by priority pupils and siblings.
3. Each school will have its own specific catchment area and the school may not be in the middle of a circle.
4. Independent and private schools may not operate such a rigid catchment admissions system.
5. A typical purchase takes around 12 weeks to conclude, from an offer accepted to moving in - your new address can only be used once completion has taken place.
